About James Pasternak

James Pasternak was born in Bathurst Manor and has been living in Ward 6 (York Centre) with his wife Lynn and four children for over 35 years. He was first elected to Toronto City Council in 2010 and re-elected in 2014, 2018, and 2022.

Councillor Pasternak has been committed to fiscal responsibility while supporting investments in vital programs and services. He has championed improvements to city parks, recreation programs, seniors' issues, public realm projects, road infrastructure, and stormwater management throughout York Centre.

James is actively involved in the fight against antisemitism, persistently advocating for policies to stop hate rallies and promote social cohesion. He has hosted numerous community meetings on transit, community safety, the arts, affordable housing, budgeting priorities, and building applications.

Before City Hall, James was a Toronto District School Board Trustee. He holds degrees from the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Western Ontario, and York University.

  • a Canadian citizen; and

  • a resident in the city of Toronto; or
  • a non-resident of Toronto, but you or your spouse own or rent property in Toronto; and
  • not prohibited from voting under any law.
